    Nashville International Airport (BNA)

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is the busiest airport in Tennessee. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, it handled about 26.7 million passengers in fiscal year 2026. The largest carrier at BNA is Southwest Airlines, followed by American, Delta, and United. Popular nonstop routes within the USA include Atlanta, Denver, Orlando, Chicago O’Hare, and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Nashville Airport offers nonstop international flights to destinations including London Heathrow, Toronto, Dublin, Calgary, and Cancun. BNA also handles air cargo. Moreover, its airport authority runs John C. Tune Airport (JWN) as well.

To keep up with this growth and prepare for 40 million passengers a year, the airport is carrying out an expansion program, New Horizon. It is a $3 billion phased expansion expected to finish in 2029. It includes the terminal expansion, a rebuilt Concourse A, an upgraded baggage handling system, and terminal roadway improvements/expansion.

    Nashville International Airport History

    History of Nashville International Airport

BNA Airport, Nashville, officially opened on June 12, 1937, with a terminal building, two hangars, a 4,000-foot concrete runway, and a flashing beacon. Scheduled airline service began that July by American Airlines and Eastern Air Lines.

In 1939, the field was named Berry Field in honor of Col. Harry S. Berry, an engineer, World War I veteran, and former head of the Tennessee Highway Department. In 1940, the military took over the airport as a clearing station for newly built warplanes. They returned it to the city in 1946. Finally, in July 1988, the facility was renamed Nashville International Airport to reflect its international service goals.
